  Mopti, town and Grand Mosque
by sachara

In the past Mopti was not so important as the cities Timbuktu and Djenne were. Nowadays Mopti has 40.000 inhabitants. There is a lifely harbour and a large market. The Grand Mosque of adobe architecture is very beautiful, but enclosed by other buildings.

Many travellers start their visit to the Dogon Country from here.

For more information see my Mopti page.

Address: Mopti
Directions: Mopti is situated at the junction of the Niger River and the Bani River, halfway between the administrative centres of Bamako and Gao.
