  The streets of Cairo

Many people use Cairo merely as a hub for visiting the pyramids and find the city somewhat intimidating. As Africa's largest, it is somewhat formidable looking, but it really does have a wonderful atmosphere.

Take time to leave the tourist hordes heading for the pyramids and wander through the Khan el Khalily bazaar taking time to absorb the aromas and meet the people. Leave half a day for this (and maybe another half to find your way out !!)

A must is the Egyptian Museum which contains the worlds best collection of ancient Egyptian artefacts including the famous mummies and the sarcophagus of Tutankhamen. Allow half a day for this alone assuming you intend to jog around it. If you intend to read each label on every artefact then, well, it's been nice knowing you... !!

If you've been staying in some cockroach infested cesspit because I recommended it then you might want to drop by the Hilton. Nice terrace to sip a fresh juice and more importantly the best toilets in Egypt (soft paper supplied!!)
