When you walk into town, coming back from the Kumbum, you have a great view at the fort. The fort lies high above the houses of the mainstreet leading to the Kumbum.

The fort is 500 years old and has rather good preserved walls. We didn't try to visit the fort, because they told us, it was not easy to go there. And because the heavy rains allready started, when we walked in the mainstreet, we tried to reach our hotel as soon as possible.
