"Transportation Strikes!" Paris Transportation Tip by connie2003

Paris Transportation: 1,522 reviews and 1,572 photos

Just a note...please have a "Plan B" ready for your metro/train travel within and out of France, as many government workers are in the midst of strikes. Check the strike lists with your travel agent.

When we were there this summer, 3 of our international trains were cancelled and we wound up spending an extra night. We consequently lost our opportunity to cross the Alps by cable from Chamonix to Aosta. Others we knew lost reservations at their next stop because they couldn't get there in time.

Also at any given time, only 2 of the 5 metro lines were running. Moreover, bus and taxi traffic along the Seine (near Place de la Concorde) were nearly at a standstill since the police had closed off several streets to keep people away from protests.

We were very glad to have had comfy shoes and an adaptive character! We actually learned quite a lot from the walks we took.
