In the north of Calcutta is the Dakshineswar Kali Temple. The temple was built in 1847 and famous for it's association with the great Hindu saint Ramakrishna of the 19ty century, who achieved spiritual vision here.

The temple has an enormous courtyard surrounded by 12 smaller temples, dedicated to Lord Shiva.
