Make sure that you understand a bit spain and also catalan. Some directions and names are only indicated in catalan, so better understand just a little bit.
I was surprised that lots of people don't speak english or other languages. So I was forced to speak my little bit of spanish and some words in catalan (which I learnt here from vt). But people were very friendly and helped as much as possible.
