This photo shows the view from the Old Royal Observatory in Greenwich. You can see Greenwich Park, the National Maritime Museum, Queen's House, and the Old Royal Naval College. Details on each of these sites can be found on my GREENWICH page. (Across the river are the modern buildings of Canary Wharf.)

Greenwich is a great place to spend a day or two, especially if you are remotely interested in nautical history. Getting there from Central London is easy: take the Docklands Light Railway from Tower Gateway Station (up the steps just outside of Tower Hill Tube Station) to Cutty Sark Station; or take a cruise from either Westminster or Tower Pier.

In addition to the museums and the "Cutty Sark" sailing ship, there are many antique shops to visit. Several outdoor markets are worth checking out, especially on a Sunday when many tourist sites in London are closed. For refreshment, have a drink or lunch at one of the traditional English pubs in the area.
