"Hike to the Torre to Ziro" Scala Sports & Outdoors Tip by sandysmith

From Scala's square continue on the road for 700m/yds to a hairpin bend. Here take the steps descending to square of Minuta. Continue down to the right past the drinking fountain. Descend on the main path for 200m/yds to a fork where path to the left descends under an arch. Either path will take you down to the square in Pontone.
Leave by arch to left of church. Turn right immediately and cross a road obliquely to a chapel. Continue gently down past the chapel and houses to where the path turns sharp left. (take this path later to Atrani when finished with Torre dello Ziro.) Now ascend a few steps and walk ahead along the edge of a terrace to concrete steps. Take these to start the ascent onto spur containing the Torre. At top of these steps is first of three wonderful viewpoints, this one looking across the Dragone Valley to gardens of the Villa Cimbrone in Ravello.
Next descend a little to level stretch by a fanciful concrete structure. For the next viewpoint, climb ahead to fourth terrace on the right. Follow this round to the right to a broad flight of steps, leading up to some ruins of a medieval fortress and the viewpoint. (If route is too overgrown, climb ahead by path from fourth terrace to viewpoint)
To reach third viewpoint, take paths zigzagging down to the left and ahead, until you reach the concrete balcony, looking right down to both Amalfi and Atrani, and to the Torre. The way down to this is obvious. The Torre dello Ziro is reputed to have housed Queen Giovanna d'Aragona, prior to her beheading. From the Torre return by the same paths to first viewpoint, the steps down and the bend in the path for Atrani.
Here turn right to descend quite steeply. After 150m/yds the path turns left along a nearly level terrace before descending to rocky stream bed. Beyond this you reach a narrow road; turn right on this to descend to the delightful village of Atrani, with its rabbit warren of alleys, piazza with sea view and bars, and fine church.
