This was Scotlands first "book town" and now contains many bookshops, mostly second hand. I loved "the Bookshop" which claims to be the biggest second hand bookshop in Scotland [or possibly the UK, I can't remember} and its deceptively small from the outside. Another good store was the "Old Bank Bookshop & Gallery" which also had a lot of art work by local artists. [7 Main Street] And the childrens bookshop [Box of Frogs?? Something to do with frogs anyway!!] brought back a lot of memories as we scoured the shelves for all those old Enid Blyton books we read as kids.

Directions: Wigtown is south of Newton Stewart
