On the circle-dike that surrounds and protects the New Lands of our latest province shows what it all really is about. Best place to see it is near a "Gemaal", huge pumpingstations that pump the water from the lower canals in the polders over the dike into the IJssel- or Rand-lakes. Here you will find out that the water in this canals is considerably lower then the waterlevel in the lakes. Often around four or five meters difference.
Driving over the dike the difference is not as visible, but one can see that this land actually shouldn't be there if nature would have it's way.
