This is another long day trip. I'd recommend spending the night in Redmond or Bend if you do this. But it can be done in a day.

This byway starts about 130 miles from Salem. It's just east of the cascade range, but is so close that the views of the white peaked mountains and crystal clear lakes are gorgeous. The loop is about 66 miles long and should take about 3-5 hours to tour. If you're a fisherman, stop and fish your way along. If you're a photographer, take lots of film or a big memory card! If you're into hiking and skiiing, you'll find lots of that, too.

Also note --- The first 17 miles of the byway start from just outside Bend to Mt. Bachelor are open year-round. The last 4 miles north of Highway 58 are also open year-round. The remaining 48 miles from Mt. Bachelor to the Cutoff are closed in the winter due to snow.

Check out my new Redmond, Oregon, page for info on accommodations and restaurants in that area.

Address: the Cascades of Oregon
Directions: Just south/west of Bend
