Sarge's: "A Murray Hill deli/diner" Sarge's Deli Tip by sarahandgareth

Sarge's Deli, New York City: 2 reviews and 2 photos

We?re putting this place in for the atmosphere rather than the food, which is decent, but not worth a lengthy trip for. The place was recommended by some friends, one of whom was convinced he was eating in a vaguely mafia-establishment, and who came in to soak up the ?danger? (in fact, it?s a Jewish-owned diner/deli). The menu is much more diverse than your average diner, with things like a tongue omelet on offer, and the wait staff have nasal Noo Yawk accents that seem like they?re straight out of Hollywood Central Casting. Still, as usual in this kind of place, there?s a loyal local clientele (the place was full on our two visits), big portions, fast service and endless refills on the coffee. It?s open 24 hours and a few of the patrons looked as though they had just staggered in from a full night on the town.

Favorite Dish: We only tried the omelets, but we've heard tell that this is a haven for Murray Hill's pastrami-lovers...
