Scenically located at the entrance to the Lichtentaler Allee, this is truly one of the most magnificent theaters in all of Germany. It was built between 1860-62 in the late baroque style of the Paris Opera House and boasts an opulent yet intimate interior. Its inaugural event was the premiere of Hector Berlioz' opera 'Beatrice et Benedict' (based on Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing), which was composed specifically for the occasion. A permanent ensemble cast is in residence. Group visits are available by prior arrangement (tel 07221-932751).

Weddings conducted by the Baden-Baden Registry Office take place in the light-flooded ceremonial Hall of Mirrors on the first floor.
