The expanded baroque structure in the west of Munich was built as the summer residence of the Bavarian Elector. In addition to the spacious palace buildings, the impressive ensemble of baroque Court style also includes a series of important collections.
The legendary beauty gallery of King Ludwig I, for example, adorns the south wing. As a part of the Palace museum, it can also be viewed, as can the birth room of King Ludwig II and the multistory festival hall "Steinerner Saal" with the magnificent ceiling fresco by Johann Baptist Zimmermann.
The Marstallmuseum in the former Court stables shows among its treasures the coronation coach of the Emperor Karl VII or the fantastic state coach of Ludwig II. On the top floor the Bäuml collection gives an almost perfect outline of the porcelain art of Nymphenburg manufacture.
The spacious palace park - a true kingdom for people out walking - enchants with watercourses and pavilions: the gentle little rococo hunting lodge, the Amaliencastle, the Badenburg bathing room, sensational for that period of time, the exotic Pagoda castle and the Magdalenenklause, considered a courtly hermitage.
