"Language Notes" Spain Local Custom Tip by reon80

Spain Local Customs: 295 reviews and 268 photos

Barcelona's first language is Catalan, which seems to me to be a mix of Spanish and French. (Please note: I've been told its its very own language derived from Latin--but to me, it sounded like a neat mix of what I'd been used to in France and other parts of Spain!!) f you speak Spanish or English, you will be fine, as most people in the city are multilingual (much more than I could ever hope to be!). But it is interesting when you think you speak Spanish and can't decipher any of the signs or menus--remember that Catalan is a whole different language, which the locals are very proud of (as they should be).
