"Eco-tourism day trip from KL" Kuala Lumpur Off The Beaten Path Tip by Quero
Kuala Lumpur Off The Beaten Path: 280 reviews and 507 photos
Just fifty kilometers from Kuala Lumpur in the district of Kepong is the Forest Research Institute of Malaysia, better know by its acronym, FRIM. The institute is open to the public and offers a number of things day-trippers, including families with kids, might like to do.
There's a canopy walkway as well as hiking trails, nature information, and even reconstructed traditional Malay houses from different regions of the country. If you want to walk in the canopy, you will need to pre-book, as opening hours are short and school groups sometimes occupy the walkway for the entire period it is open on a particular day. Check the website for the special booking number.
You'll get a lot more out of your visit if you stop at the Nature Education Resource Centre to pick up a set of Educational Brochures. These eight brochures provide self-guiding trail descriptions, explanations of the research plantings, and background on traditional Malay residential architecture. Cost: RM 5 (about US $1.30) per set.
