  a view from the castle

Bled ia a tiny touristy town at the footsteps of the Julian Alps - touristy but nice, and everyone seems to go there. There's two obvious reasons: Bled Island and Bled Castle. Bled Island sits in the middle of Lake Bled, it's picturesque and tree-covered and in the middle, a little church: the Church of St Mary (Sv. Marija) with a wishing bell that visitors are encourage to toll. Bled Castle is a castle perched up the hill overlooking Bled: it's nice, not spectacular - but the views from there over lake Bled are unforgettable. When the weather is clear you can see all the Julian Alps, the Karavanke range and the Kamnik Alps.

Address: Bled
Directions: Not far from the Austrian border. About 30 minutes from Kraniska Gora
