Favorite thing: The sunset.

Wrightsville Beach is a beach town accessed from the mainland via a bascule bridge. They seem to have figured out that they have two separate tourist groups - the regular beach people in the summer and the boat people in the winter. And that if you let people anchor instead of insisting that they come into marinas, they will stay and spend money in town.

The bridge however is a major PITA on the ICW. The last year we did the ICW in a boat, we ran aground in the middle of the channel. And it also has a restrictive opening schedule which is not in synch with the next bridge up.

Fondest memory: They bill themselves as the Atlantic City of the south. They further state: "an island 1.5 miles from the main land is unique, being free from mosquitos and flies, offers splendid entertainment features, motion pictures over the waves, concerts, music for dancing, surf and still water bathing, boating, sailing, fishing, golf and motoring on splendid drives"

Wrightsville Beach is primarily a residential community that has its roots in Wilmington. There is very little land - it is a small island - so there is almost no available land for sale. This is good if you don't want Ferris wheels, arcades, mini golf or bumper boats
