One of the few areas where a former prison is a big tourist attraction. Millions a people a year take a boat ride to tour Alcatraz. It is also a great way to see the city skyline from the waters of San Francisco Bay. I did this on my first trip to San Francisco back in 1981. This time it was too cold and misty to go out on the bay. Here is a picture I took from Fisherman's Wharf.

Address: In the middle of San Fracisco Bay
Directions: Alcatraz is reached by ferries of the Blue and Gold fleet from Pier 41
Phone: Blue & Gold (415) 705-5555
