Favorite thing: North Myrtle Beach and the whole Myrtle Beach area is famous as a vacation spot, for golf (photo 3 shows a chair lift across the ICW for golfers), beach and fishing. Those are not reasons for me to visit. I come because the ICW goes through this area and if I want to go south (or north in the spring) I have to go through here.

Fondest memory: The Barefoot Swing Bridge (marked with a # on the top right of the chart which is photo #2)should not have been built (it should have been a fixed bridge). The free docks don't attract me - I'm not much into shopping malls, and rafting is a lot of work.

The canal south of Barefoot Landing is one of the nastiest anywhere, not only because of the original construction with rock ledges sticking out under the surface but because building along the canal allows debris (such as big trees) and mudslide to go down into the canal. There are advertisements on the bridge abutements for towing and propellor repair - those people have a good business fixing the boats that are damaged by the canal.

So while Doc Holliday's is a nice marina, I would eliminate this area from my trip if I could. My fondest memory is having escaped each trip without significant damage.
