Considered one of the founders of Russian science, Mikhail Lomonosov (1711-65) was a true Renaissance man ~ passionate about education, he helped found the Moscow State University in 1755; he wrote a grammatical revision; he published the first history of Russia; he wrote poetry; and, finally, he "dabbled" in mosaics (learning the art himself and building a factory).
This monument is found on the University grounds (Lomonosov taught at the Academy of Sciences). There is also an interesting statue at the other end of the park row, although I'm not sure who/what it is, this one less traditional in design.
