in sari-sari stores everywhere and groceries: "Chocnut" Philippines Shopping Tip by birgitte

Chocnut is the official chocolate of the Philippines. (kidding!) although it comes close to it.
As the name suggests, it is a combination peanut and chocolate candy. Very cheap.. if you are able to finish a dollar's worth of this candy, you'd probably have diabetes by then. Strange, on closer inspection, it is really inferior to the imported candies but open one when you have "balikbayans" expats visiting the Philippines and the scramble would be for chocnut despite the abundance of other imported chocolates.
Mention chocnut to filipino friends living abroad and they would agree... a must taste.
Chocnut even influenced one important building's architecture. Check out Folk Arts Theater in the CCP area. Their columns look like chocnut. Again, kidding.. probably a coincidence but when I pointed it out to my friends back when we had a field trip there, even the teachers started laughing and saying.. ya.. the columns do look like cemented chocnuts.
Chocnuts are a bit messy to eat as they crumble easily. The trick is to eat it off the wrapper or using the wrapper to catch all the crumbs while you lift it a miniscule bit.
Can be bought retail (per piece) or by pack. I think the whole pack would probably cost less than a dollar.
Made in Malabon. If I remember correctly.
