A short outrigger boat ride from Dumaguete in Negros Oriental will take you to Sumilon Island.
This island, formerly a marine sanctuary protected by Silliman University, is a great place to dive and snorkel.
Even the shallow waters were teeming with reef life.
It's been awhile since I've visited and no longer sure who is managing the island but it was being leased by a Japanese company when we were there in '94.
Cottages were perched on top of the cliff and you can snorkel from the rocky shore or from the the sandbar in the pic.
This was one of my most memorable vacations ever. We spent 5 days there and didn't want to leave. Sunrise as seen from the cottages on the cliff were absolutely beautiful.
