"The rarest deer in the world" Top 5 Page for this destination San Diego Zoo Tip by matcrazy1
San Diego Zoo, San Diego: 147 reviews and 216 photos
If you are lucky (I was not) you can see the rarest deer in the world in San Diego ZOO.
It's the bactrian wapiti or Bukharan red deer.
At the end of 1995, only 55 animals could be accounted for, all living in captivity.
The largest breeding herd was in the San Diego ZOO, from where other groups have now been established in U.S. zoos. The only chance for this deer's survival is through captive breeding.
