"Haven for Beer Drinkers" The Ginger Man Tip by sarahandgareth

The Ginger Man has about sixty beers on tap, and at least a hundred more in bottles, so if you're into beer, this is the place to come. They regularly add new beers - and remove old ones - so there's no chance of getting bored. It also has very tasty food, virtually all of it non-fried, which is pretty unusual for a pub. The soup-and-sandwich option is especially good.

Dress Code: There's no dress code. On Thursday and Friday evenings there are plenty of suits and ties with the after-work crowd drifting in (often in packs); it can get pretty loud early on though it usually quiets down. We usually preferred to head there on Sundays or Mondays.

The only real downside is that they allow cigar-smoking - in fact they even sell cigars. I've never figured out why people like to smoke those things: I'm not rabidly anti-smoking, but if you're unlucky, being near the cigar-puffers can be unpleasant. (Of course now that New York has gone smoke-free, this should not be a problem.)

Address: 11 East 36th St
