The main town on the island of St. John has a very colourful, funky, rastafarian vibe. There are some tacky tourist malls on the north side close to the entrance to the national park but don't let that dissuade you from wandering the rest of the town and getting a sense for its true character. Open air bars, banana stands, ramshackle (but flourescent!) houses, and other interesting sights abound. It's also the main ferry terminal for the entire island, so you're likely to wind up at least passing through on your way from St. Thomas, the most heavily populated island and administrative centre. The capital of St. John, like the rest of the island, is more relaxed and has a slower pace than the hectic bustle that often defines its larger neighbour.

Directions: St. John, west side
