"Accents" New Zealand Local Custom Tip by Kate-Me

New Zealand Local Customs: 139 reviews and 123 photos

Some New Zealand and Australian accents are similar if both are slight rather than strong. Growing up with a Kiwi mother I was picked to have a bit of a NZ accent myself.
I?m sure many New Zealanders will say that their accent is nothing like that of Australia - if they compare with our ?outback? accents it certainly doesn?t, and we have different slang words, but between city Australian and NZ accents I mainly only notice the different vowel sounds, particularly the ?I? and ?e? .
In New Zealand, I feel as though the atmosphere has still decidedly British or Scottish overtones, whereas Australia has been tending away from Britain for some time, has quite a substantial Republican movement and is said now to be following closer with the United States.
