This church was constructed by Constantine in the 4th century. It was the first Christian basilica in Rome and is the cathedral of Rome and the pope's seat as Bishop of Rome. The bronze doors of the eastren facade were removed from the Curia on the forum in mid-17th century when Borromini transformed the interior.
