  Ruins on Piazza Vittorio
by martin_nl

When we walked from the Santa Maria Maggiore to the Scala Santum and San Giovanni in Laterno churches we passed this square. It is also a small city park. Although being a bit of a messy square there were some nice things to see here. It used to be on of Rome's most important open air markets. But nowadays these markets are moved to an indoor location at one of the corners of the square. There are a few ruins and the remains of a 3rd century fountain, and the Porta Magica which has some signs and formulas on it.

Address: Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II
Directions: From Santa Maria Maggiore church take the Via C. Alberto, or take the metro to Vittorio Emanuele.
