  Heinrichsplatz square
by german_eagle

Heinrichsplatz is a small square in the old town with charming atmosphere. It is surrounded by beautiful Renaissance and Baroque houses.

The Heinrichsbrunnen (fountain) was built by Georg Hermann Nicolai in 1863. Its figure shows King Heinrich I. who founded the castle on the hill above Meissen.

The former church of the Franciscan convent on the southern side dominates the square. It is now home for the town's museum. The convent was founded in 1258, the church as you see it today was dedicated in 1457.

Directions: Old town, city centre.
