  Neue Wache
by barryg23

One of Schinkel's finest buildings, the Neue Wache was originally built as a memorial for Prussians who died in the Napoleonic wars. It is just one of a number of stunning buildings on Unter den Linden, and the best place to see it from is on the steps of the Opera House, or directly opposite. During the Cold War, it served as the GDR's memorial to victims of fascism and militarism, but since reunifiction, it has served as a memorial to victims of all wars.
