Today you can visit the fortress as it has been turned into a museum with such a variety of exhibits there is sure to be something to please everyone. From seemingly mundane, though interesting, items as would be used in the old kitchen to more seemingly exciting things such as armory and weapons. It has the usual works of art and intriguing other displays plus the visual impact of the panoramic views from the walls.
The picture shown here is of Maestro romano del XVII secdo Ritratto di Cardinale, a name I had to put here as it won't fit in the captions!
The piece de resistance, for me, was the prison where Balsamo was held. You really get the feel of how bad prison life must have been. The eerie thing is that flowers are still placed on his bed. Homage to free thinkers perhaps? The fact that he died here after four and a half years only adds to the grim atmosphere.
