"Basilique St Denis" Basilique Cathédrale de Saint-Denis Tip by mrclay2000

  Basilique St Denis

The oldest Gothic church in Europe and France, and, if it did not actually reside in St Denis, this would also be the oldest Gothic church in Paris, predating Notre Dame by over twenty years. Here it is, my vote for the best hidden gem in Paris, the Westminster Abbey of Paris (St Denis), and the former burial place of her monarchs. Though rifled and ruined in many ways by the French Revolution, the stained glass, the rose window and the Gothic architecture at St Denis is incredible. Drop into the vaults below and your experience is complete.
