Couleur- Café Festival (by Nathalie NIZETTE)
by Norali

:::: 3 days to entertain yourself in a "global village" dedicated to art, culture from South (Africa; America, West Indies, Asia, Middle-East). Find those culture "VRP" in Tour & Taxi site, a former industrial site that is preserved.

Discover stalls that sell food, artcrafts; restaurants; big tops that house artists' music shows; dance floors. I remembered from 1998 session that painters had their stands. Festival is growing. Still, it keeps its genuine identity to promote Southern cultures.

A quick glance at their website gave this:
-Land art artists would exhibit on Land art (many photo session of Mali, Saudi Arabia, India, Yemen architecture). The greatest open-air exhibition in Brussels for this year will be Cool Art Caf?. Focus will be on use of earth in building proceeds.
-International artists such as Terence Trent d'Arby, Zebda, Salif Keita, Israel Vibration & The Roots Radics Band, et "BARCELONA SONA", Jimmy Cliff, Tony Allen, Asian Dub Foundation, Massilia Soundsystem, Les Fils de Teuhpu as well as I Muvrini and Manu Dibango and many others... including Malagasy band Miary Lepiera & Sairy.

Picture was taken from their website, photographer: Nathalie NIZETTE. ::::

In 1998, I was in charge of a Malagasy artcraft stand for three days. This experience enabled me to talk about my country, explain Malagasy culture to festivalgoers. I had this privilege at that time to go to concerts for free.
I tasted there Cape Verde cuisine that was delicious. Other cuisines are available. At that time, a big top arranged serving Moroccan mint tea: a nice memory of that as well. The last night, I was dancing on techno. I don't know the DJ but it was in a small spot. New stuff for 2003 edition: DJs and semi-live bands coming to heat up the nights in a big top, 'ELECTRO WORLD', dedicated to Techno music: a gigantic dance-floor that hold 1200 persons, 2 stages.

Price: 25 euros for a day, 3-day pass at 58 euros.

Address: Tour (Thurn) & Taxis - Rue Picardstraat 2
