This part of England has a history going back to the Roman occupation and there are lots of sites of it to visit. The weather to adds its charm and leaves its mark of the memories of a visit to this area. It can be bitterly cold on a winter's day but warm sunny and welcoming on a summer day. It can rain heavily on one dale only to be dry when you cross over into the next one. There is in many parts of the countryside an old world feel to the place but it was the site of the beginning of the industrial revolution in England and reminders of this can also be seen.
I am not just saying it because I was born there but Yorkshire is an area of great scenic beauty. It has dramatic moorlands, beautiful valleys and many lovely little villages plus the interesting and historic city of York. The Yorkshire Dales are in the north of the county, to the east are the North York Moors and added to this is the beautiful coastline.
Three main dales - Wensleydale, Swaledale and Wharfedale and a number of smaller dales, form the Yorkshire Dales. Once again it was an ice age which formed the countryside and carved out the steepsided valleys. The Yorkshire Dales have been a National Park since 1954.
