Eagle Creek Trail is one of the more popular trails in the Columbia River Gorge area. It is a trail that many begin their backpacking careers on. The trail makes a grand three-day loop when combined with the hike up the creek canyon to Wahtum Lake and then looping back over the Benson Plateau and down the steep Ruckel Creek Trail. Many are content to camp along the many sites along the creek. There is the ever roar of the creek and the many waterfalls along it. The trail starts at the end of a small road leading south from the Eagle Creek fish hatchery. You get to the fish hatchery from Interstate 84 eastbound direction only - it is the next exit past Bonneville Dam. Weekends can be extremely busy, so go early! You need a parking pass for the parking area - get at local stores or online from the Mt Hood National Forest.
