  Atrecht College
by petwouters

The Atrecht College was founded in 1508 by Nicolaus Ruterius, who became the bishop of Atrecht. There were quite some poor students at that time, and they didn't always have money to buy a house or a place to stay.
Ruterius rebuilt his house so that those poor students could stay with him.

At the end of the 18th century, the college was rebuilt. The old chapel is now gone, but the most beautiful part with the gothic gate is still there to see.

From 1921 until 1977 it was used as a place to stay during the Academic Year for girl students.

On the inner court you can see a beautiful Sophora Japonica from the 18th century. They also call it "the tree of sadness", because the girls needed to be inside on their rooms at 7pm...

Right now the Center for Study Advice and the Psycho-Therapeutic Center are found in this building.

Address: Naamsestraat 63
