  Tjornin - The Pond

If visiting Iceland, chances are you'll be spending at least some time in the capital city Reykjavik. It's only a 45 minute drive from the international airport located in Keflavik.

Iceland is a lightly populated country of only around 300,000 people most of which live in Reykjavik. It is a good base for day trips or start if you're driving the ring road around the island.

The old part of town which is quite charming is located around the pond or Tjornin. Most homes are composed of corrugated metal some brightly painted. There are numerous species of birds, walking & bike paths, sculpture and flowers in the summer.

Other city sites include a few museums, art galleries, sculpture throughout the city, the imposing Hallgrimskirkja church, and it's tower that provides excellent views of the city.
