"Public transportation in Amsterdam" Netherlands Transportation Tip by Marie-France

Netherlands Transportation: 243 reviews and 206 photos

In Amsterdam, it is worth buying strip tickets (strippenkaart) if you plan on using the public transportation. They're valid on all buses, trams and metros and are more convenient and cheaper than buying single tickets.

On the trams, you must get them validated (ie. stamped) by the operator located toward the back of the car.

You can buy strippenkaart at tobacco shops, post offices, train station counters, ticketing machines, many bookshops and newsagencies, and at the GVB office in front of the train station.

Amsterdam has a zone system, like other large cities in Europe.
