"Boat trip down the Li Jian river" Yangshuo Things to Do Tip by TexanInWien

The scenery in and around Yangshuo is amazing, anyway -- but to really experience the full beauty, I would recommend a boat trip down the muddy, misty Li Jiang.

We caught a tour van in Yangshuo, and after a 45 minute very bumpy ride on a road shared with bicycles, cows and water buffalos, we arrived in a small town upriver from Yangshuo.

The town (whose name I can't remember), was intriguing. We disembarked from the bus on one side of town and walked through its center to the other side. While very small and poor, it was a side of rural China that was worth seeing.

Our boat was a small, primitve, flat bottomed fishing boat. The occupants included 10 or so tourists, the captain and a mate.

We were probably on the boat for a little more than an hour. Along the way, we saw families cooking dinner on their ferry boats / homes, water buffalo cooling in the river and ranging on the shores, families travelling in handmade wooden canoes, local women washing goods in the river (they scolded us loudly from the shore for disturbing their canoes with our wake), a canoe water taxi taking a young pregnant lady across the river, and a lone woman in a red dress, standing in the distance in a sea of green, holding an umbrella.

Address: The van leaves from the center of Yangshuo
