"Learn about European art in Valencia's cathedral" Valencia Things to Do Tip by DanielF

Valencia Things to Do: 525 reviews and 1,179 photos

The cathedral of Valencia is one of the most unconventional I have ever seen. As many other churches in Europe, it has been built and rebuilt on a number of occasions and the result is an amalgam of architectural styles that, at first sight, only match together with difficulty but, which do create an espace of high artistic value.

As a matter of fact, a walk in and around this cathedral church is like taking a lesson on the history of European Art: there is a little bit of every architectural style from Romanesque to Barroque. Even each one of its three portals have been built in a different style: the oldest one is Romanesque, a second one is Gothic and the main one is Barroque.

These pictures show the southern facade of the cathedral church, facing the Queen's Square, formerly known as Saragossa Square.
