If when you are visiting Pyay and if you have a little time then another place well worth visiting is the Ancient city of Thayekhittaya !!
I found the best way to do this was to catch a pick-up from the Main Street of Pyay ( in the morning around 08.00 / 09.00 there seem to be plenty going in this direction ) to Hmawza Junction, from here it is about a half hour walk down a quiet side road to the village of Hmawza, here it is possible to hire old and rickety cycles to tour around the Old City. The site is spread out over a large area and the maps available are poor !! we set off following the Railway Lines in the opposite direction to the way we had walked in, then after about 3k turned right down a track and soon started to stumble across ancient Buildings and Temples, after another half hour we came to an old graveyard then eventually to the enormous Bawbawgyi Paya and from here passed other old temples back to Hmawza.
If you don't go to the museum then you can avoid paying the Government entry fee !!
Then if you have timed it right you can catch the train back into Pyay, this departs from Hmawza around about 17.00 but is often late !!! -- The fare is 20 kyat and it takes about half an hour to get back to Pyay
A GREAT DAY OUT -- If you have the chance -- Do It !!!!
