Favorite thing: Well hidden by the hideous McCormick Place and an ever increasing amount of new lofts and condos, the Prairie Avenue Historic District is a beautiful part of the city, just two miles south of the Loop. Home to Chicago?s elite in the late 19th century, only a few mansions remain today, but the area still retains an affluent, quiet, secluded feel. Well worth a visit, but you?ll need a car. Tourable highlights around this area include the historic Glessner and Clarke houses, the neo-Gothic, Tiffany decorated Second Presbyterian Church and the moving Vietnam Veterans Art Museum. Please visit my travelogue documenting this peaceful, undervisited part of the city.
