This is a nice little hike that you can do if you have a car that gives you some great views out over the Willamette Valley in the area of the state's capital, Salem, and back over the Cascade Range in the area of the upper Clackamas watershed towards Mt Jefferson. The mountain itself is an old basaltic plug with dramatic basaltic columns encircirling. The trail winds around the mountain and climbs up to a small summit plateau that during a summer week you can savor all alone - the weekend, you may have to share:-\ In June, depending on the severity of the winter, the flower show atop can be very pretty with rhododedrons, Indian paintbrush and bear grass all putting on shows. To reach the hike you drive up the Mollala River from - appropriately, Molalla; about 45 minutes south of Portland on Oregon route number 213; takes about 2 hours to drive to the trailhead from downtown Portland. The top of Table Mountain is a great place to sit back in the sun and enjoy the views. You can see from Mt Hood to the Three Sisters in Central Oregon in the east. You can see from the skyscrapers of Portland -they are very small - to Mary's Peak in the Coast Range, near Corvallis, when you look to the west. For more information on how to get up there, use %L[ www.oregonhiking.com]William Sullivan's%L* trail guide to Northern Oregon- and no, I am not getting paid:-(
