  KINGS OF THE ROAD

OK

And I don't mean the ones you see on tv, the traffic law in the Dom. Rep. is seldom enforced, but there's one rule that you have to cement into your brains, or else they will end up splattered all over the pavement, Trucks are the kings of the road, they have the right of way, they make U-turns in the middle of the highway, they make wide-short-medium-as wish turns, and they are responsable for the most tragic accidents in the streets and highways, bottom line: always drive defensively around a truck or heavy vehicle, they will overtake you on highways, even with little room to avoid uncomming traffic, they drive faster than most vehicles on the road, they seldom have any rear break or driving lights, they carry the smallest diameter lights in vehicles, so if you see two very dim small lights in your lane ahead, chances are you're driving behind one truck or semi, locals avoid driving at night due to the poor driving safety on the roads, so should you!
