  Fisherman's Grotto (Mark Jochim 5/30/97)
by MarkJochim

Thousands of tons of crab, sole, shrimp, salmon, sea bass, squid, and other deep sea delicacies are processed here each year. The boats begin landing their shining catches around dawn.

The hubub of the "seafood grottoes" lies north of Jefferson at Taylor; the covered sidewalk is lined with vendors selling fish, walkaway seafood cocktails, and the city's wonderful sourdough bread.
