Aedipsos was well known since the antiquity for its spa. Prehistorical findings (at Koumbi) show that the place was constantly inhabited. According to mythology, Iraklis (Hercules) found again his strength thanks to its sulphur springs. Aristotle, Strabo, Plutarch, Claudius Ptolemaeus and other ancient writers mention its name.

Roman General Syllas visited the place and built public baths, whose remains have still his name: ?Thermae Sylla?. Ancient inscriptions inform us that on the 2nd century AD, Aedipsos was accepting visitors from all over the known world of the time. Roman and Byzantine emperors entrusted its hot springs for their cure.

Today Aedipsos is a health-resort well organised, ready to accommodate visitors arriving there because of health problems or just for tourism. It has about 5,500 habitants, but a much greater capability of accommodation.
