  Sinha-Giri; Lion Rock, Sigiriya

This was a large palace/fortress that takes advantage of a huge monolithic rock. The palace was only occupied for a short time in the latter part of the 400's AD. It is a World Heritage Site and is well worth a visit. Tke lots of water as the hike to the top of the rock is very hot. The picture shows the rock from the western entrance which came in through some interesting water gardens. About halfway up the rock there are some very nice frescoes that can still be seen on the wall of the rock.

Address: Sigiriya
Directions: About an hour south of Anaradpuhra, just off the road to Kandy.
