"Garden District. When the city..." Louisiana Favorite Tip by Anisha1

Favorite thing: Garden District.

When the city became part of the USA, there was an influx of 'Americans'-Anglo-Saxon stock bent on acquiring a share of the area's wealth. Riches they won, mainly from cotton, sugar and shipping, but not social acceptance from the French Quarter Creoles. So it started in 1832, they developed their own lavish neighbourhood a short distance upriver, which we now call The Garden District.

We spent an afternoon here. The Homes are not open to the public and Bus traffic is not allowed through here. We did get to see some elegant gardens and beautiful houses.
