The Boymens-Van Beuningen Museum of Rotterdam is one of the best collections of art in all of the Netherlands. The gallery has a good overall collections that is very representative of the various periods of art history. There are strong works by such artist as Bruegel, Rembrandt and Rubens representing Dutch art during the Golden Age. However unlike Amsterdam's Rijkmuseum, this gallery's collection extends into more modern periods. Therefore there are works by Monet, Van Gogh and Kandinsky. There is also an fine display of contemporary works that might interest people who are more freethinking about the question "what is art?" Some of these pieces certainly are challenging for the viewer.
